BIOLOGY PROGRAMME

Mathematics Programme of the National Mathematical Centre is one of the oldest academic departments of the Centre. The Centre was established by decree 40 of 1988. Other major academic departments are: Theoretical Physics, Mathematical Science Education and Computer Science Programmes. These departments were as a matter of policy headed by reputable and renowned Professors. It was so to enable facilitation of quality scientific activities to the best interest of the growing Scientists within and outside the Country. The sole responsibility of Mathematics programme department is to coordinate quality scientific activities in areas that much attention is needed to the learning and teaching of Mathematical Sciences in the nation and beyond. Such scientific activities are: Workshop, Foundation Postgraduate Course (FPC), Research Oriented Course (ROC), Conference and Symposium. Before the creation of Statistics programme department in the Centre, Scientific activities in Statistics were jointly coordinated by Mathematics Programme. The Statistics Programme was later created in year 2000 under the headship of Prof. J. N. Adichie, from University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

CORDINATORS OF THE DEPARTMENT
Late Prof R.O. Abiodun
The Pioneer coordinator of the department was Late Prof R.O. Abiodun. He was also the deputy director of the Centre under the Administration of Prof J. Ezeilo. He died in the service of the Centre in 1987. Before his death, he was the acting Director of the Centre.
Prof. S. O. Iyahen
After the demise of the pioneer coordinator, the department was without a coordinator for a period of about six months. During this period, the Centre was directed by Prof Iya Abubakar on acting capacity. Professor S. O. Iyahen assumed duty on 11th May, 1988 as the new coordinator of the department. When Prof A. O. E. Animalu became the Director of the Centre, he was made the deputy director of the Centre. He later became the acting Director of the Centre when Prof Animalu’s appointment was terminated. During his period as coordinator, more Scientific activities were organized by the Centre. The funding of the Centre by the government was moreover better. Basically, the Scientific activities were for higher level of education. When Professor Iyahen completed his Contract tenure, there was no substantive Coordinator, but its activities were coordinated by then newly created unit called Applicable Mathematics. This unit was headed by Associate Professor B. O. Oyelami.
Associate Professor B. O. Oyelami Later on, Associate Professor Oyelami was made the acting head of the department. He serve from 2006 to 2009. He is presently the Coordinator of Physics Programme. His area of research is modeling.
Professor A. R. T. Solarin He became the Coordinator of the Programme in June 2009. He has a lot to offer the scientific world.
Professor Adewale Roland Tunde Solarin Profile
ADEWALE SOLARIN, a Professor of Mathematics was a Deputy Vice – Chancellor (Dec. 2004 to Dec. 2006), and a member of the Governing Council of the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria(2000-2006); but currently the Mathematics Programme Co-ordinator in National Mathematical Centre, Abuja, Nigeria. Adewale, with background in Statistics and a Ph. D. in Mathematics, has for 31 years taught various undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science, not only in his home university but also in many other universities, within and outside the country. He was one of the prime movers of the inauguration of the Quality Control Society of Nigeria (QCSON) in 1990. Consequently, he became the foundation National President of the Society in 1990, a position he held till December 1994. (click here for detailed profile)
